Diaphragm Guardian System

The Diaphragm Guardian System is designed to monitor fluid pressure within Air Operated Diaphragm pumps. It acts as an energy conservation gadget by changing the output of the pump if it rises or falls above the Guardian’s set configuration point.

The Air Operated Diaphragm Guardian System monitors fluid pressure, changing its output if the monitored pressure rises above or falls below the set point of the Guardian (dependant on configuration), controlling the associated pump according to the following applications:

Dry run & stop

If the discharge pressure inside the pump falls below the configured point, the pump stops. This is caused by air being absorbed into the pump.

Dead head & stop

If the discharge pressure inside the pump rises to the configured point, the pump stops. This is caused by a closed valve or an exceeding amount of pressure inside the discharge line.

Dead head & restart

If the discharge pressure inside the pump rises to the configured point, the pump stops. This is caused by a closed valve or an exceeding amount of pressure inside the discharge line. The pump automatically restarts when the pressure falls back below the set configured point.

Dry Run & Dead Head

The Electronic Dry Run and Dead Head Protection System controls pumps shutting down with extremely high accuracy of up to 0.05 Bar. This means that this is an impressively reliable and effective system, with the added benefit of lower operating costs and lower compressed air consumption.

Barrier Pump & Control

The Barrier Pump has a second diaphragm which acts as a back up within the pump. The Guardian monitors the pressure between the first and second diaphragms. We recommend purchasing this in conjunction with a diaphragm alarm system which would sound an alarm and shut down the pump if the pressure was to rise above the configured point. This would protect the environment or the pump from liquid entering the air system.
The Guardian System is a fully pneumatic, chemically inert pressure trip with an integral latching output control valve. The system includes the following features:
  • Air supply inlet
  • Pilot output to control the associated pump and pneumatic alarm output
  • Can be easily switched to another application by changing the position of the seal plate
  • Single floating PTFE diaphragm
  • Available in a range of materials to suit any fluid being pumped including Stainless Steel AISI 316L, PTFE (conductive) or Aluminium
  • Includes mounting bracket

Guardian Units, when bought on their own, need at least a Blocking Valve and can have TPUK-PA Audible Alarm, TPUK-PAM Audible Alarm w/ Mute & TPUK-VFC Alarm VFC (Volt Free Contact Output) as optional extras. The system consists of a backup diaphragm pump (TB), and a control and alarm system. Under normal operation, the chamber between the backup diaphragm and the wetted diaphragm is set to vacuum by the control system. If any of the diaphragms would break, the pressure will rise in the vacuum chamber. The control system will then switch off the pump and turn on the horn. This system is allowed for use also in explosion hazardous areas since only pneumatic components are used. The panel is 200 x 200 x 130 mm and is available for all Tapflo AODD pumps from 2” and up and can be supplied in either ABS Plastic (IP55 or 65) and Stainless Steel AISI 316 (IP44).
